What is Western Challenge’s legal status?
WCHA was originally set up in 1977 and is an exempt charity registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies act 1965 (Register No 19312R). WCHA is also registered with the Tenant Services Authority (Registration No L1446).
What is the Tenant Services Authority?
It’s an independent agency and has specific responsibility for the funding, regulation and inspection of registered housing associations.
How is Western Challenge run?
Overall responsibility lies with its Board of Management, which is specifically responsible for policy and long-term strategy. However day-to-day operations are the responsibility of paid staff headed by the Operations Director.
The Board is made up of people who have experience in either housing management or property development plus other support skills needed to run a business e.g. accountancy, information technology, personnel etc. There are also four residents of the Association on the Board who are elected at the annual Residents' Conference.
