Support services at Western Challenge
Western Challenge provides support to over 1000 people to help them live independently.
The support can cover the following activities
- Advice about the property: safety, security, repairs
- Help in developing social contacts and activities
- Signposting to other services, and advocacy
- Help in managing finances and benefits
- Monitoring health and welfare
In our sheltered housing, the support is usually provided by a sheltered housing officer, who is based either on site or on a nearby scheme. The hours worked by the officer vary according to the size of the scheme, and are outlined in the support service statement for each scheme. The tenants can access the staffmember’s office through “warden call” equipment within their flat and at certain points around the scheme. When the sheltered housing officer is not at work, the equipment is linked to a central control centre who will provide telephone advice, and will call out other services e.g. ambulance where necessary.
