Medina Housing Association Celebrates Success of Future Jobs Scheme

Future Jobs Placements Group  Fourteen Future Jobs placements celebrated at an achievement event and lunch following their successful employment at Medina Housing Association this year. The placements are funded as part of the Department of Work and Pensions Future Jobs fund which aims to create 170,000 additional jobs around the country to help young people aged 18-24 who have been out of work for nearly a year. Medina Housing association is part of a Third Sector Consortium, 3SC, that has collectively created 3000 jobs through this scheme

Maria Wilkinson, Community Enterprise Manager says “Our involvement in delivering Future Jobs has been very beneficial to the company and the young people. We have created Future Jobs across all areas of the business including: finance, policy, repairs and maintenance, resident involvement, customer services and at our Foyer project in Ryde. Duncan Breckell, Senior HR Officer says “The young people we have employed have been fantastic. Not one person has dropped out of the scheme and we have been very impressed by their professionalism and commitment”.

All the young people are given a contract for 6 months and work a minimum of 25 hours per week. The Future Jobs Project give the young people valuable experience by creating real jobs in a real working environments. For many of the young people employed by Medina Housing through the Future Jobs Scheme, this is their first real experience of work.

Chris Hayward, employed through the FJ Scheme as Resident Involvement Assistant says, “My future jobs placement has been a fantastic experience and has given me the opportunity to learn new and relevant skills whilst working in a challenging and rewarding environment”.
